Blue Butterfly

I’ve been traversing the Akashic Records for some time now and have shared this story with few. But I’m sharing it with all of you to illustrate the potential and self discovery an Akashic reading holds.

While attending an Akashic Reading Retreat, we were guided to open our records and explore a past life theme may hold influence over the present. So while in my own records, I was traveling to a past life in a giant lotus where I landed in a rural, equatorial environment. It was somewhere I’ve never been in this lifetime and it was night. There were earthen structures off in the distance, a single large tree nearby and a ceremonial fire circle next to me.

I noticed a line of folks dancing in celebration as they made their way in my direction but I could not hear them. They were dark skinned and had blonde hair which I found interesting. I thought that was peculiar because I wanted to know why they were celebrating. As they got close, I realized they were coming to the fire circle, but once they approached the edge of it, they stopped advancing forward, yet kept dancing. A young girl stepped out of the line to answer the questions on my face. As I continued to converse with her, each time I looked away and looked back, she had come closer and shapeshifted just a bit until she was standing in my lotus now as an androgynous elder of the tribe. I realized a bit late that I was talking to the village shaman.

I asked why I was there, why I cant hear them and what were they doing and the Shaman responded in kind, directing my questions back at me. Eventually with each action I took, more was revealed to me and this is how the rest of this story played out:

I stepped out of the lotus and into the fire circle. While inside, I noticed a dome-shaped forcefield around the fire and that was preventing the villagers from entering. They were all happy; they wore big smiles as they danced and laughed, but they would not enter and I still couldn’t hear them. The Shaman, when asked “What do I do? How can I help them?” said, “you know what to do.” So I raised my arms and the people began to enter the fire circle, a few at a time.

When they entered, they lost all gravity and were able to fly and swirl around each other, rejoicing in this sense of freedom, before the ultimately ascended through a portal at the time of the forcefield. I was in awe and quite emotional as I witnessed them, a few at a time, over and over rejoicing and ascending. During this time, the Shaman told me a story about how these villagers are my ancestors and they have been energetically stuck here, awaiting the coming of a blue butterfly that was prophesied to set them free upon arrival.

At that moment I looked down at myself and realized that I was wearing a long blue ceremonial robe with big bell sleeves—I was the blue butterfly! It took a lot of courage to not default into imposter syndrome and receive the news that I had such influence. I understood in that moment how Spirit speaks in symbols and puns and we truly never know until we know what signs are being sent to us actually mean. I cried—I mean I wept—as I embraced the depth of this experience not only for me but for this entire village as well.

Eventually there was no one left in line to ascend so I lowered my arms and as I did so, the forcefield vanished. The village Shaman had no need to ascend as they were still standing in my lotus at the end of all this. I shared my gratitude for their guidance, understanding that they were one of my guides, before they disintegrated before me.

I share this story because I often tell people that we are multidimensional beings living out many lifetimes all at once. We have the capacity to connect to these spaces if we are doing the work. I may have looked like myself in my minds eye but to these villagers I may have looked simply like a blue butterfly. We are often numb to the ways the Universe/Spirit tries to communicate with us but we are SURROUNDED by magic.

I shared this experience with a friend who is a shaman and she said, “you know what that means right? You’re a psychopomp.” Wikipedia will tell you: “Psychopomps (from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός, psychopompós, literally meaning the 'guide of souls') [1] are creatures, spirits, angels, demons or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls from Earth to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply to guide them” When I heard her response and read this, I realized that I have been doing this very work in many ways in my lifetime but my experience as the Blue Butterfly was a bit of an awakening.

Months later, I was scrolling on facebook which I rarely do, and came across an article with the big, smiling face of a dark skinned child with blonde hair. I stopped in my tracks, recognizing on a soul level that these are the people—my people! I learned that they’re from Melanesia and although they have blonde hair, it’s derived from a gene separate from the European blond, which is just amazing to see the physical diversity in our planet. Does that mean I “saved” the souls of a bunch of modern Melanesians? Nope. The Universe is not that literal. Do I feel in my soul that I spiritually/energetically assisted in “unlocking” something for a village of folks that could be Melanesian in the past, future or parallel lifetime? Sure.

After this experience, the icon of a blue butterfly (although prevalent in all things retail) has been showing up for me in a deep and meaningful way as a reminder of my gifts, to stay on my path and in my spiritual practice. And of course, to stay open to the idea of Pure Potentiality.
